Commissioning new publications

Proposed new publications go through several stages before a decision is made on whether the ePress will publish the material. This process aims to determine:

  • subject matter and scope of the proposed publication
  • quality of the proposed content, (in the case of journals, this includes the nature of the refereeing process envisaged)
  • fit with the ePress's existing list
  • potential readership, including whether or not the field is already adequately covered by other publications
  • marketing and sales opportunities to reach readers

If preliminary discussions regarding the proposed titles indicate that the title is a good fit for the ePress, the proposing author will be asked to prepare a detailed proposal, in consultation with the ePress. This may be followed by evaluation by the ePress Advisory Committee and then external review by at least two independent scholars in the field. The proposer may be requested to revise the proposal, addressing any issues that arise during this assessment process.

Interested in publishing with the Monash University ePress?

If you have a scholarly journal, monograph or set of conference proceedings that you would like Monash University ePress to consider for publication, please read the commissioning policy. The commissioning policy outlines the type of material that the ePress publishes, as well as answering many general questions that you may have.

After reading the commissioning policy, please contact the Manager of the ePress for a preliminary discussion of your proposed publication.

Submission guidelines

The ePress's Submission guidelines (820kb) are available as a PDF document. These guidelines are for books and journals that have been accepted for publication. Until your publication has been accepted for publication there is no need to follow these guidelines.

The guidelines are divided into two sections:

Part One: Submission Specifications
These instructions must be followed. These instructions cover the style for references, and the formatting requirements for tables, images and equations, and what can and cannot be submitted in the body of the main Word document.

Part Two: Style Guide
These are suggested guidelines. For authors of journal articles, the journal editor will advise whether you must follow these guidelines or not. The Style Guide section offers suggestions on spelling, punctuation, numerical and grammatical matters. Unlike the Formatting Instructions, this section of the Submission Guidelines is not mandatory unless indicated by your editor.
